The biography of an eighty-nine year old man living on the streets of New York City, told through free verse and arresting photographs, this books provides a journalistic investigation into the art of survival in America today.

Thoughts
Author Joe Lamport met Richard Musto because Richard was living on the streets of New York in a cardboard box, just down the block from him. Joe was fascinated with Richard, because he’d never seen someone of that age (89) living on the streets before.

The book is written in free verse, and at first I thought I wouldn’t like reading a whole book written like that, but I did.

Joe and his photographer friend Michel Delsol, met with Richard over a period of a 2 years and documented his life. Richard is an amazing man. He survives the streets of New York with dignity and grace. His mind is sharp, and he tells Joe and Michel about his life, which I found very very interesting. He was in World War II and has had quite a few interesting careers.  I loved this book, and it makes me want to go to New York and meet Richard myself.

I’m so glad I decided to read this book. I don’t want to say much more because I want everyone to read it and find out about this amazing man for themselves. This will be a book I read again…and again.

Richard is currently in a rooming house in Atlantic City where his rent is paid up through March 1st. We hope sales from the book will be sufficient to cover the cost of his rent for the following month.
